This Homemade Lasagna Bolognese recipe is a traditional Italian dish that is ideal for a relaxing dinner at home. This lasagna is sure to become a family favorite with layers of tender pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy ricotta cheese.
- Prep Time: 30 minutes
- Cook Time: 50 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente.
- While the noodles cook, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook until the vegetables are softened in the skillet with the onion, celery, carrot, and garlic.
- Stir together the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, basil, black pepper, oregano, and thyme in a skillet.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes.
- Separately, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and salt.
- Cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish with a thin layer of the meat sauce.
- Arrange 3 cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
- Cover the noodles with a layer of the ricotta mixture.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the ricotta mixture.
- Layers of meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese should be repeated two more times.
- Grate the Parmesan cheese over the top of the lasagna.
- Bake for 25 minutes with the baking dish covered in foil.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Allow 10-15 minutes for the lasagna to cool before serving.
